Horizon Studies

The concepts of depth, space, and horizon line have always been interesting to me. As I continue on through my college art classes I'm opened up to more techniques, critical thinking, and mediums that allow me to better capture these spaces that we all see everyday and often take for granted.
Following this post are two recent paintings I've completed, while I'm not 100% happy with them, I am proud of the strides I have made and feel these are worthy addition to my horizon studies. Instead of my commonly used watercolor paints to capture these sky spaces, I attempted it using acrylic paint. The differences between the two materials gives an altogether different quality and what these paintings say comes out very different to when I'm using watercolors. As a side note, One of my watercolor landscape paintings is currently being displayed at my local city hall. As soon as I get the piece back I will try to post a picture of the work. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

(note: the three images with blue sky are one single painting)

Scanner Photography/Painting

It was recommended to me that I try utilizing my scanner in lieu of a camera for capturing images by my photography professor. The work that came from it was interesting to me, but as I try to do with any new idea or technique, I strive to make it my own. Thus was born "scanner painting", the outcome of work from this technique interests me significantly and I plan to experiment with it further. So far I have begun a series using this technique entitled, "...and suddenly Jack The Ripper had an idea." Enjoy!
